Ludlow Cares to meet with Lord Lieutenant

The Lord Lieutenant for Shropshire, Algernon Heber-Percy

The Lord Lieutenant for Shropshire, Algernon Heber-Percy

Her Royal Highness, Queen Elizabeth II’s representative for the county of Shropshire, the Lord Lieutenant Algernon Heber-Percy will meet with Ludlow Cares representatives ahead of the sleep-out this Friday.

The Lord Lieutenant is keen to find out more about the initiative, and will be speaking with key personal from the sleep-out this Friday afternoon, just prior to the event’s kickoff at Ludlow College. He was also able to offer the following comment on the project, which has certainly buoyed spirits her at Ludlow Cares HQ:

“Many young people in our community face a difficult future. At a time when job prospects are poor and family breakdowns an increasing occurrence, is it no wonder that many find themselves without a roof over their head? Some even turn to homelessness as a relief from the abuse and neglect that they experience at home. It is a sad fact that of the 2,000 people who sleep rough each night, some 200 of them will be under 25.

“So I am delighted that Ludlow Rotary Club is highlighting the plight of these young people by organising Ludlow Cares – an event when some 70 of Ludlow’s residents will be taking the time and trouble to experience for themselves the degradation of sleeping rough if just for the one night. And by being sponsored to do so, they aim to raise much needed funds for important charities working to help young homeless people within the town and beyond. These include Barnardo’s which seeks to transform the lives of vulnerable children across the UK; St Basils’s, the West Midlands charity which works to prevent youth homelessness by providing accommodation and support services; and, more locally, the Ludlow Foyer and the Ludlow Food Bank.

“Not all of us can join the sleep-out. But we can all show our support by making a donation and demonstrating that Ludlow really cares,” the Lord Lieutenant concluded.

Only four more days to go until the grand sleep-out – Keep those donations coming everyone!
